SPECIAL ISSUANCES
Special Issuance is an FAA grant of a
medical certificate when the airman does
not meet the FAA
guidelines, however,
can still fly safely.
An AME Assisted Special Issuance is service
that follows the initial FAA grant.
It simplifies the
re-issuance of the medical
certificate after usually
a year. You can bring the necessary reports to the
office and, after satisfactory
review, a new medical
certificate may be issued without
an exam.

HIMS stands
for Human Intervention and Motivation Study. It is a Special Issuance program
for the recovering alcoholic pilot. Dr. Terrell has been certified to
participate in this program since 1988 and is one of very few AME's in Ohio certified
to do so.
HIMS III is a very time intensive program. It requires a minimum of two
hours face time in the office, extensive written documentation must be prepared
from numerous reports provided by the pilot and other sources. The final package usually requires between
4-8 hours
of preparation before submission to the FAA in
